I suggest pclinuxos a easy to use Linux distribution that has multiple desktop options KDE, LXDE, XFCE, OpenBox and the desktop options have two builds available Full Version, Mini Version the Full Version is for if you are new to linux and has a lot of software installed and the Mini Version is designed for advanced users or for users who wish to learn how to customize their system with the applications and support files they want to use

I suggest vanilla Ubuntu as a dual boot OS. The problem with these “flavor-of-the-week” distributions is that support is usually one guy in his spare time, which means that things may or may not work, and the lifespan will probably be limited. Ubuntu is well-supported and has some of the best array of software and hardware support. It has one of the best installers as well. If you want a more stripped-down experience, the Xubuntu version is great, or you can just run XFCE on the regular version. That being said, I’ve had very good experience with OpenSuSE, Mint, Mandriva, and Mepis as well, though they are more oriented towards the KDE environment. Much of it comes down to what your preferences are for a desktop, how well that desktop is integrated, and how much time you want to spend configuring it.
