Darren steps away from the usual Hak5 episode to take some time to remember a true hero amongst hackers, Aaron Swartz. A founder of Reddit and more importantly, a champion for internet rights, Swartz tragically took his own life on January 11, 2013. We take some time to reflect on his life and honor his memory.

  • Hundreds have died, committed suicide – both Hatfill and Ivins over Anthrax, or are in prison. Aaron Swartz was one of your own, but you watched as others were victims but they were people you either disliked or were indifferent to.

Do something positive? How about slaying the leviathan that regularly kills or imprisons? Not trying to tame it, trying to control it. Kill it. Dead. Cut the Feds power.

Within a few months – and even now – it is destroying someone else. Do you even care? If they aren’t a hacker? Is it just about your own selfish desires? Your freedom but don’t care about enslaving others? Or should the hacker community come together with those whom they might dislike to slay our common enemy?

If you want to keep the “jackbooted thugs” around to enforce your preferences, those whom you don’t show tolerance for, they will be co-opted. Taken over. They will kill people like Aaron.

Let us come together to slay the leviathan whom is threatening innocents everywhere. It is better to allow some individuals you dislike to do evil and absorb, tolerate, or use your own means to deal with it rather than to empower some evil ogre to take care of it for you. The ogre will eventually be paid to take care of you.

  • Surprised at only one comment… Hey Hak5, I’m sorry for the loss of your friend, and to the rest of the world, I’m sorry for the loss of someone who was trying to save you from yourself. BTW, Darren, I have trouble taking you seriously when you’re serious, and I’d rather be grinning while you’re grinning. I know you’ll pick up his sword and keep fighting for those better days.
