  • you guys have the best shows. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen every all of them. Been hooked on you guys from the time you were playing with the Zipit Z2. I live in Alaska, and spend my evenings watching Korean, Chinese and Japanese cargo planes fly over at 40,000 feet.

I built the same collinear antenna you did on the show. I’m still trying to troubleshoot it. Did you install the 75 ohm resistor? How many 11 cm sections of coax did you use? I also used 12 coax lengths. After assembly, I had a DC resistance of about 93 ohms (I might have a short circuit somewhere in there).

HAK5 is rocking with an awesome field trip.

Darren could you have used a USB to Ethernet converter instead of 10 meter USB cable?
Also a gardener trick: use 5 foot section of 3 inch diameter PVC pipe. And 3 hose clamps like the ones used on automotive radiator hoses. Use the hose clamps to clamp the PVC to the ladder. Put your extender poll into the PVC “tube”.

Paul, great shot on the antenna looking down. WOW!

Can not wait for the next show.

    =^..^= pppuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrfect.

Hey guys! Would it be legal to listen to these aviation transmissions?

    • Netcat 1 year ago

      YES it is legal.

There is NO expectation of privacy because none of it is encrypted.

Is it legal to listen to AM and FM radio? Would be the same type of question. Very silly when put that way.
