pineapple

The WiFi Pineapple is a hot-spot honey-pot

You see most laptops have network software that automatically connects to access points they remember. This convenient feature is what gets you online without effort when you turn on your computer at home, the office, coffee shops or airports you frequent.

Simply put, when your computer turns on the wireless radio send out out beacons. These beacons say “Is such-and-such wireless network around?” Jasager, German for “The Yes Man”, replies to these beacons and says “Sure, I’m such-and-such wireless access point — let’s get you online!”

Of course all of the Internet traffic flowing through the pineapple such as e-mail, instant messages and browser sessions are easily viewed or even modified by the pineapple holder.

The WiFi Pineapple is a specially crafted, battery powered wireless hacking device based on the Fon 2100 access point and housed inside of a plastic pineapple.

Custom WiFi Pineapples

Debuting on Hak5’s fourth season premiere the WiFi Pineapple and Jasager have been a huge hit. Since launch I have received many requests to build custom pineapples. Until now I have rejected such requests.

Then at Shmoocon in 2009 Johnny Long of I Hack Stuff and Hackers For Charity fame requested a WiFi Pineapple for his charity’s silent auction. The pineapple rose $400 to build computer training centers in East Africa.

Since then I’ve been getting more and more requests to do custom pineapples so I’ve decided to put up a page about these commissions.

Funding our hacking research and development

The WiFi pineapple is a joint project between Darren Kitchen of Hak5 and Robin Wood of Digininja.org

Together we brainstorm, build, test, and promote hacking devices. We’re always looking for the next hardware to hack and in order to fund our research and development wishes we’re taking on custom WiFi Pineapple commissions. Profits from these commissioned WiFi Pineapples go to a special hardware hacking fund.

Do-It-Yourself is cheaper

If you want to get up and running with Jasager on a Fon this is not the least expensive option. I build these using Fon 2100 access points, plastic pineapple cups, and 4xAA Battery Holders with on/off switches. The software is freely available from digininja.org/jasager. Step-by-step guides are on our wiki and support can be found in our forums.

That said, if you’re interested in commissioning a custom built WiFi Pineapple please use the contact form below.

Commission a custom WiFi Pineapple

The WiFi Pineapple comes assembled as a Fon 2100 with soldered on 4 AA battery holder with on/off switch housed inside a plastic pineapple shell. The original Fon case and US power adapter as well as Hak5 and Battle Pineapple stickers are included.

The WiFi Pineapple is configured with Jasager, and the root password / SSID of your choosing. Simple setup instructions and numbered certificate of leetness are provided.

Each WiFi Pineapple is hand made one by one. Depending on materials your WiFi pineapple will ship by FedEx in 5-10 days. You will be provided a tracking number.

The price for a commissioned WiFi Pineapple is $144 and includes materials, labor and shipping. Profits go into a special fund for future hardware hacking.

This is a custom made device developed for the purpose of penetration testing where permitted. Do not use without permission.

Once your order is submitted I will begin the build process. You will receive periodic updates on the status of your pineapple including photos of its construction as it is being built and tested. I cannot guarantee that all photos will be void of cast members making goofy faces with your pineapple. You have been warned.

It is absolutely imperative that you ensure accurate shipping information. Please verify that Paypal has your current mailing with your order.

Thank you for your interest in the WiFi Pineapple. If you have any questions about ‘em or would like to make a special request please don’t hesitate to email me.
